Back Home
It started to snow in Kelowna just before we headed to the airport. By the time we arrived it was snowing in earnest so my sister and I convinced our parents not to come in and head back home while the going was good. Luckily for us our plane was on time and we boarded without incident, taxied to the end of the runway and then the pilot came on and said the airport authority had just closed the runway! You could hear a collective sigh run through the cabin.
They taxied us back to the gate let us off but said, "Keep close we'll be trying it again as soon as they reopen." That didn't really seem all that likely since it was now snowing even harder. My sister and I along with our cabin mate went and got ourselves a beer. No sooner had we started to drink when we were called back onto the plane. Aw, we had to leave our beer behind.
Of course once everyone was boarded there were two missing passengers. So there was a scramble to find the tardy twosome but finally they arrived and we were once again going through the motions of take-off. The flight attendant was hilarious. By law they have to repeat the instructions but she did it in double time. We deiced and revved up the engines and then Mr. Captain was back on the intercom telling us that once again we had missed our window of opportunity and the runway was shut down.
This time they did not let us off the plane and it seemed like we were in it for the long haul but miraculously and hour and a half later we tried it a third time and this time we made it. We virtually followed the snowplows down the runway and into the air. Needless to say everyone was whooping it up giving the West Jet workers a round of applause.
Most people were great but of course there were a couple of passengers that had to be ultra-annoying and rude to everyone that dared cross their path. But, rest assured they were mocked by the rest of us and no doubt their boorish behaviour has been well documented. I'm always rather stunned by people that will scream expletives at strangers. Do they not know they only embarrass themselves?
We also had a wonderful snowfall on the 22 of December. Here is a picture from my parents place. That's the provincial park across the highway. It's the best. I absolutely love it in there and spend most of my time in there when in Kelowna. the other two pictures are from inside the park.

Well for all you hockey fans out there, Canada plays the US this morning. I think this one might be a doozy because playing the Americans is always fun and the Americans are already in deep after their loss to Germany. Germany? How did that happen?

Go Canada Go!

Welcome Guggs. I think today's game is going to be great. In fact the pregame should be on now so I must run and cheer on our team. Go Canada Go!!

Nice tale. Your snow inconviences rarely happen here anymore. Maybe twice a winter? Pictures are nice too.

JR Hockey: You know who I'm rooting for. Ha. See you.

I'm told there isn't any snow at all in Kingston or Sarnia right now, it was a green Christmas. Sure looks like you all got ours.
I'm flying back tomorrow, I hope our plane doesn't get stuck in Denver with all that snow.

I'm going to be a complainer and complain about complainers. Isn't it always that the non-complainers get stuck with the complainers. It just makes things worse! I like when the complainers get called on it though.

Doesn't it make you a bit nervous when you finally take off after two aborted attempts? So glad that you made it home safe and sound and that you had a lovely snowing Christmas.

It finally snowed here today (Dec 27) and I went out to shovel tonight. It was rather lovely actually.

Busterp, no doubt you are crying in your beer tonight after your loss to the mighty Canadians today!! Although I must admit we weren't looking all that mighty after squandering a 3-0 lead there in the second period!

Allison, it's a weird winter with the west blanketed in snow and the east raking leaves. What's up with that? Oh no, you have to go through Denver? Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the expected storm does not hit!

Hey small town teacher I just talked to K and she will be here tomorrow at 11:00!! We are letting you choose what we do! We're up for anything. E is having to suffer through a holiday in Hawaii so she can't make it. Poor E sitting on a warm ocean beach somewhere.

Barbara, I think you were commenting as I was commenting! I must admit I love to travel but I'm not much for the actual flight part of the travel so yes I was pretty glad when we actually made it off the runway and into the air. I'm glad you finally got some snow. Snow in Calgary over the holidays seems like a must.

Hilarious plane story :) I am so happy you made it home safe and had a lovely white Christmas! Hopefully I will be able to catch up on all the posts I've missed really soon. :)

Hey Mel, welcome back! It's great to see you again. I realize your return maybe rather sporadic but we'll take our Mel fix anyway we can!

Those two tardy passangers were drinking your beers I'm sure.
Sound like a nerve racking wait for take off.
Rude angry types are usually depressed...

Canada won? Great! I was traveling without incident by train today and missed that news.

I did not mean to laugh at your ventures but thought you posted them for the humor so did so freely. While reading your post I could not help but think that the two people they could not track down were those that were finishing their beer! Sorry it took three times but better late than never hey?

Yeah, I don't understand rude people either, it has never been part of my nature to be that way but I have also been in enough service jobs where I have had to put up with peoples crap and smile that I swore I would never do that to another human being.

I love Kelowna. It is beautiful. My family lives in Westbank (the reservation to be precise) and I miss it.

Barbara, say it isn't so! I was hoping someone would finish them off but not someone from my own flight!

I always wonder what the truly rude person must be like at home behind closed doors if they are so willing to be abusive in public.

Kelowna is beautiful. I have never lived there so don't really know the different areas but man it's gorgeous. Last summer I took an outdoor drawing course while there and each day we went to a different park to sketch. It was fantastic and so great to see the different areas. One day we went where there was an incredible waterfall.
