This Week's Top Ten Random Shuffle
1. Me in Honey: REM
2. Simon: Joan Armatrading
3. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me: U2 (I feel rather alone in the world in saying this but I can't stand their music and only own a CD because it was a Christmas gift.)
4. Full of Grace: Sarah McLachlan
5. Where is my Love: Cat Power
6. One Last "Whoo-hoo!" for the Pullman: Sufjan Stevens
7. Whip the Blankets: Neko Case
8. Mrs. McGrath: Bruce Springsteen
9. Froggie Went A Courtin': Bruce Springsteen (Whoa, weird two in a row and both from the same CD. Good CD though so maybe itune isn't so dumb after all!)
10. Song for the Angels: Great Lake Swimmers
I haven't imported it yet but the CD of the week around here is definitely Melissa McClelland's, Thumbelina's One Night Stand.
Running a close second is The Decemberists, The Crane Wife.

That is one fine list. Further reminds me that I need to ask for some more cds this year.
I know many people who don't care for U2, so you're not alone. I like their old stuff more then the new.
Very lovely list. I'm not much of a U2 fan either, but I do love Great Lake Swimmers.
Allison, I hope you get your wish. After all your hard work a few cds seem in order. Tell them it will help with your 70 page thesis!
Barbara, it's nice to meet a non U2 fan! I have so many friends that think they're wonderful and I keep thinking, "I just don't get it!" I discovered Great Lake Swimmers on http://newmusiccanada.com/
and from the moment I first heard them have been a rabid fan.
U2. Soldier Field, Chicago. First (major) concert with both kids. I love them. Decemberists, sounds like Robyn Hitchcock. A good thing.
Nice list. I adore that Cat Power song. And although I like a few U2 things they don't deserve the hype.
Add me. Cool.
Saw K Edwards album on sidebar. Did you see my previous blog and video?

Hope this works. Great song.
Warning: I'm waiting for a student that is now fifteen minutes late! So, if I end this midsentence you'll know why. (He wrote an exam yesterday and doesn't write again until Wed. so I rather suspect his good intentions of, "I'm spending my Friday night studying calculus," went out the window.)
Busterp, most of my friends think U2 are the best as well. Well, at least we can agree on The Decemberists and Kathleen Edwards. I haven't read your post on her yet but I definitely will. Depending on how late my student is I may even read it now!
Kees, I'm with you on Cat Powers. Her voice is so distinctive and has kind of an eerie quality to it.
Well, I think it's hightime someone got a wakeup call! University students, you gotta love 'em!
Aren't uni students the best?? ;P
I'm actually mad at a few choice teachers right now, for the same reason you're frustrated with said student. They said they'd be in their offices, and they're not. Three days in a row!!!! Even after numerous emails, etc. I'm thinking about breaking a few windows soon.
Allison, that is terrible. There is no excuse for that. I figure around exam time you have to be far more accomodating than usual. That's why I'm teaching throughout the weekend with split shifts. Hope you manage to get ahold of them.
I really want to get that Mellisa McCleland CD! I've only listened to one song on it, but that's enough to know I will love it!
Mellowlee, if you can swing it I would definitely snag a copy of the CD. It is so good. Alana was the one that introduced me to her.
