Composition VIII - Wassily Kandinsky
It would be impossible to chose a favorite artist but Wassily Kandinsky would certainly come close. When I think of "favorites" he is always in the running.
This painting is hanging in the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The Guggenheim Museum and I do not get along. All of their literature promotes the fact that they own the largest Kandinsky collection in the world. The problem is they don't let you see the collection. The last time I was there, August 2005, this was the only painting of his that was displayed.

oh now I just have to hear Brand New Day...that's one of my favorite Van songs.
Nice piece of work...like it. What a bunch of teasers...didn't their moms teach them to share? :(
I was going to comment on the Van Morrison as well - it's nice to see a little Van thrown in the mix. And you can't go wrong starting off with the Pogues.
I like that painting too. I don't know the artist, but can't understand why they wouldn't exhibit their collection.
So strange, I just had a conversation with a friend over Kandinsky. He's my all-time favourite artist. Don't you love when blog world and real world collide? The picture wouldn't open for me. I shall check back later.
Blast!! That was me. I have to stop doing that.
Deb and Barbara, my love of Van Morrison is a direct result of having an older brother. Growing up in the 70's I didn't like what my age group was into so I used to sneak into my brother's room and borrow his records. Of course what I thought of as borrowing he thought of as stealing!
Tangentb, aka Allison, I knew you had impeccable taste! Kandinsky is awesome.
Liked the art. Didn't recognize the artist's name. I think I've seen it before. I don't know. Link wouldn't work. I found this to view:

Love Van. I have the DVD, The Band, Last Waltz. You should see how young the Belfast Cowboy looked!! He still sounded the same though. Have a nice weekend Toccata.
Hey Busterp, thanks for the link. A not working link. Hmm, rats that will be from my end.
Hey thanks for the link I'm going to go and have a look. Hope your weekend is a good one too. Cheers!
Love that Dylan song. I'm a big Pogues fan.
Whenever I'm in San Francisco, I go to a biker bar called The Zeitgeist. One night, on a trip there a few years ago, I was chatting up the bouncer, and somehow the topic of Shane Mcgowan came up (don't ask me how). He picked up a broken pool cue and said Shane had broken it over someone's head about six months earlier. He's still quite the party animal.
Johnny Yen, that's a great little sidebar. You have really led an interesting life so far. I still love that story about you and your friends heading off to Graceland. It has to be one of the most memorable posts I have read.
