The recipe is on Kelly's blog and you can link there from my sidebar.
There 's the first half of the tomato soup going into the batter! I must admit when I first read about his tomato soup cake I kind of thought he was kidding.
Of course with baking there always comes the inevitable clean up. I need a maid or least a fancy pants dishwasher.
The only change I made in the recipe is I put all the batter into one large cake pan into two small. Other than that I followed everything exactly including washing the raisins. I didn't make any white sauce, quite frankly I didn't know what that was, and the cake is sweet so you definitely don't need a topping.
I decided since this recipe was Kelly's grandmothers I would put it on my tea set that I inherited from my grandmother. Seemed rather fitting.
So now my only question is when is Kelly going to post his awesome lemon mousse cake?

Oooo OK, first I have to comment on the place setting. So pretty!!! I love that. I should try this cake out. I love that you took photos of the process and the end product :)
Mellowlee, I still feel like crap and so I still have the attention span of a two year old so taking the photos meant I could blog without actually having to write anything! There should be a law that no one can ever get sick while on holidays!! Grr!
Hmm, interesting. It sure looks good. I don't really like tomato soup, so I don't know how I'd like it in a dessert, but those pictures are making it very appealing.
You are one brave woman! But we still need to know how it tasted. Your place setting is lovely though and does the cake justice.
Allison, you can't taste the tomato soup. It's like zuchinni muffins in that way.
Barbara, it tastes kind of like a spice cake only sweeter. I would maybe cut down on the sugar if I made it again. It really was good though.
Awwwwww! I hope you feel better soon! Thanks for posting when you are under the weather. Now crawl back under those blankies and let Sammy Jo keep you warm!!
glad you liked it...i guess i wasn't clear...by putting it in 2 cake pans...1 goes to kelly..haa haa
That is a gorgeous place setting all right...I especially love the placemat/linen.
We should steal this for food porn, no?!
I imagine it's the same thing as those cakes that call for mayonnaise...doesn't affect the taste much but makes them moister?
the lemon mousse cake, i'll post it, but it takes more typing...and as you may have noticed, my typing sucks...sooo..it'll take a bit
Kelly, next time I'll make sure you get your fair share! No worries about how fast the lemon cake gets posted.
Deb, this cake would be excellent for when the Lions are playing. It has kind of an orange tinge to it.
I remember that my Mom did that kind of cake once, but we were not allowed to know what was in it, we tasted it, loved it and then, she told us what was in it... and we did not believe her... but it tastes really good!
Evelyne, my mom used to do that too. I guess they know if they tell us before hand we'll be, "Ew, no way am I eating that. I don't like it!" Have you started back to school yet? Some universities I know started on the 3 but others not until the 8th. Hope you enjoy your classes.
I have had tomato soup cake... My late bf's mother bakes it.
It's nice to see it on a blog.
Are you going to listen to The Strombo show this Sunday? I got word from George that it will be live...
I also reminded Alex that he has fans now...
Barbara, I will definitly be listening tomorrow. That Alex just kills me. He can make anything funny. Are you still planning on going to the taping of The Hour on Monday?
Weirdo! :0)
Dogga, you brat! I bet it's an old English recipe!
yeah I'm going Monday.... didn't you read the post on the stroumboulopouli? LOL
Loved the tomato soup cake by the way I forgot to mention that part..
I like the sounds of that and the look yummmy.....I was just out for a walk and left Allison's place so I thought I would drop by...amazing...a almost local person...it has been quite the storms we have been having....
Cheers
Barbara, I've been kind of out of it the last few days. I thought I would send the recipe to my mom. I'm kind of curious if she has heard of it. I'm thinking maybe it's a recipe that was quite popular from an earlier time.
Hello Smalltown rn! Have you been getting lashed again with rain and wind? The rain around here is getting downright ridiculous. Well, I'm going to pop on over to your place for a visit.
I thought I had left a message earlier. blogger must have eaten it. I'm going to try it. Perfect thing to do once football is over on a sunday afternoon. Thanks.
Busterp, good luck with it. It's really easy.
