The Thief
Chicken is by far my cat's favorite food. As soon as it enters the oven he parks himself in front and will not leave until it comes out and then he follows you around and bats your leg until he gets his fair share. Saturday he was in a very good mood because I cooked his favorite meal.
On Sunday I had leftover chicken. Of course I cut some up for him as well and put it on a dish. Phone rang and when I came back there he was on the kitchen table eyeing my chicken! He looked at me, looked at the chicken and in one swoop, grabbed the chicken in his teeth, flew off the table and into the living room where he dove under the legs of the television stand into a corner out of my reach. When I went to give him heck, he just gave me a saucy look and I swear that cat winked at me before devouring my chicken!

Here he is licking up any last chicken residue off the baking pan!

he's a bobcat, right? oh yeah, housecat.

What a little bugger. I miss having cats/dogs. Although my "foster dog" was here today covering me in hair. Never a dull moment with animals around hey?

Deb, I don't think I could live alone without having an animal. I always figure he makes my house a home.

have you ever cooked a chicken under a brick?....i tried it last night..was good...the breast meat wasn't as dry

Toccata said...

Kelly, under a brick? Never. I once cooked a chicken over pine cones though. It took forever but it was really good.

OMG! That is funny, but geez, what a little stinker hey LOL

haha.. i love how he waited for you to see him, my dog does that too.

Kelly can you explain the under a brick method?
I have shoved beer cans up the chickens bum, that is always pretty tasty.

Sammy Jo, it's a good thing you are so pretty or your mom would scalp you! What a little bum!

My old cat was being looked after at a friend's place over Christmas once and she came in the kitchen to see him on the counter, eating the breast out of the turkey.

Cats are too smart! They know where to hide and they know that they aren't allowed to do some things (eat your chicken) !

Hey there Mellowlee, does Loki ever steal your food?

668, I think getting caught is half their fun. I have an image of Goober guarding the peanut butter jar!

Junky, beer cans? I have cooked meat in beer but I have never shoved a beer can up a bird's butt!

Barbara, too funny. The Christmas turkey no less. Yikes! Good thing cats are rather adorable looking. I sure as heck wouldn't put up with this kind of behavior with a gerbil.

Evelyne, cats are pretty smart. Whenever Sammy Jo knows he has done something wrong he runs to where I cannot possibly get a hold of him!

Rama and Bob (the)cat say Hi. Funny and so true. The butter dish is our biggest worry. I just try not to dwell on it. Ha.

Toccata said...

Busterp, make sure you give Rama and Bob (the cat) a tummy rub for me. The butter dish around here is safe. Sammy Jo has no interest in butter whatsoever.

don't waste your beer on a chicken bum....beer is too good...cut up both sides of the chicken backbone and remove it. Open chicken flat . Do whatever you like as far as seasoning the skin (I like olive oil and lemon juice rubbed on skin and then season with whatever seems good). Heat up a oven proof pan, put some olive oil in and put bird in skin side down...put a couple foil covered bricks on to hold chicken flat, cook on stove top for 3-5 minutes to start browning skin. Place in 375F oven for 40minutes or so. Take out remove briks and turn chicken over...cook some more until done. Remove and let chicken rest for 10 minutes...chop up and enjoy

Hey Kelly thanks for responding back. I will have to try it this weekend. I have a couple of bricks on hand because I use them for printmaking. They should work fine. I really liked the last recipe of yours I tried so I'm sure this will be good. Well, not to be a pain but I sometime love the halibut and blueberry recipe you talked about once. You had a fancy schmancy name for it but blueberries and halibut is all that comes to mind.

p.s. I hope your eye is on the mend.

haha.. cats are smarter than dogs. when my dog is bad, he runs to the front door and tries to curl up into a little ball... umm, sorry dude, you are 80 lbs, you can't make yourself small enough so that i can't see you...

Toccata said...

Hey one eyed Kelly thanks for posting the how to on the chicken. Well, at least I knew it was a fish and a fruit. Salmon and blackberry sounds really divine. Deb's right you should be part of food porn. You could be their pin-up boy!

Deb, I second the idea of Kelly at food porn!

668 haha, your dog needs an invisibility cloak!

Toccata said...

p.s. to Kelly. Hope you're up for your dance lesson tonight!

justacoolcat said...

Naughty.

I find it funny that they always when when they are being bad, but they do it anyway.

Toccata said...

Justacoolcat, too true. I think they have figured out that they have so completely wrapped us around their finger that any real consequences are probably not forthcoming.

I can finally access your blog! For some reason it wasn't working for me today.

That is a funny tale, I love when you said you could almost see him wink at you. Too funny. Cats are hell raisers sometimes, and they know that, which I think makes it all the more enjoyable for them!

Toccata said...

Allison, I most of Victoria was experiencing internet problems today. Congratulations my friend. Have you floated down to earth yet? Cats are saucy but I wouldn't have it any other way. A cat with attitude is far too much fun.

food porn huh?....do i have to be naked at the keyboard?...and if so will anyone see me?....might put people off food

Toccata said...

Kelly, haha you goose head!

Loki used to steal food all the time when I first got him. He belonged to someone else (an ex) who let him get away with murder. He would steal food right off of your plate and even try it when you were eating off it too! He would also jump on counters, and knock plates and other glass things onto the floor and shatter them trying to get at food. I don't know what the hell that was all about. Maybe he wasn't being fed properly? Anyways, after a few months living with me, he no longer jumps on counter, or steals food from plates. He will however get into the garbage if we forget and leave chicken bones in it. Im sure if we left a plate sitting on teh coffee table for a minute alone, the temptation would be just TOO much for him, but he really impresses me. Good boy has come a long way :O) btw, he is really overfed...Sean spoils him rotten!!!

LOL. Each naughty cat post just makes me miss my cats more.

Deb, don't give Kelly any ideas!

Mellowlee, well all I can say is at least Sammy Jo doesn't knock down and shatter glasses and plates to get to food. The other misdeeds well maybe we won't talk about them. I have the feeling Sammy Jo would be in for some tough love at your place! :)

Dogga, he's a brat but he is fun.

Barbara, well hopefully someday you will have another. You never know.
