Hate Mail
My little innocuous post yesterday garnered me a lovely email full of hate and venom. Seems my stating that I probably would not have stopped made someone I do not know feel a need to tell me they thought the world would be better off if I had been the one to die on the sidewalk.
Well, you who I do not know and by the way you have been blocked from my email, I have but one question: If I am the only person who would not stop why do people die every year on our city streets?
Well enough of that. This morning it was a gorgeous morning and when I was down along the ocean I saw a rare sight indeed. A bald eagle was down along the rocks along the ocean. Bald eagles are not a rare sight by any means around here but they don't usually hang about on the rocks where you can see them up close and personal. In all the years I have been here this is only the third time I have seen that. The shots are a little grainy but I'm going to post them all the same. Surely pictures of eagles can't get me into hot water!

Pictures of a bald eagle not in flight is disrespectful to every citizen of the USA.
Kidding.
Hope you have a sense of humor.
Very nice pictures. We have a lot of hawks around here but I've never seen an eagle except at the zoo.
Lastly, I don't know how anyone could get upset with your decision. I never thought twice when I read it. Too many other variables are not known to judge anything.
Busterp, that's funny. I spent a summer in Pennsylvania and saw a lot of golden eagles but never any of the bald eagles.
hahaha busterp!
Those eagle photos are amazing. I am constantly astounded by the sheer variety of avian life you have around your parts, and I'm not even particularly a fan of birds. (Now surely that will generate some hate mail!)
Congratulations on your hate mail, btw. I always feel like I've done my part toward flushing the crazies out of the internet when I get one, which admittedly is not near often enough.
Wow! I would definitely feel a bit shook up if/when I get hate mail.
I like your pictures! We have five eagle that hang out here. If you go to my flickr site and click on my contacts, one of them has some awesome pictures of the eagles around here.
i like them pics. nice. have we discussed how bald they are, maybe that would have garnered more hatemail?
goofy.
HUGS.
man blogger is cranky as shit *excuse me*
Love the pictures!
And there is something wrong with the author of the hate mail, that person would have stop? i mean when you live in a big city, you can see quite a lot of people sitting on the ground (or even sleeping), should we stop and ask all of them if they are okay? anyways, great pictures, I'd like to see a real eagle once!
Oooh, hatemail? Geez, I leave for a few days, I must backtrack to see what I missed.
Barbara, it just bugged me that they used my email for it instead of just leaving it as a comment. I felt like I had been spammed!
Small town teacher, I will definitely go and check out your pics of the eagles.
Boo, that's funny. I think I need to work on ways to try and alienate the entire blogging community!
Evelyne, you will just have to try and get out to Victoria sometime so you can see yourself a real eagle.
Allison, you'll be disappointed in the silly little blog that garnered the hate mail. When I got it I reread what I had written thinking maybe I came off really insulting or something. Some people.
Aren't Bald Eagles amazing up close?
i had to stop mid post and skip the comments to come here.
For that moron who emailed you....I think the hatred they spewed in your direction is of far greater concern that your honesty.
You are a beautiful, wonderful person and if that idiot had taken the time to read your blog, they'd probably have thought twice about doing that. Let's face it - those who "vent" on other's emails wouldn't likely help anyone with anything.
So a big FU to your uninvited guest. And using your email just shows a cowardly bully without the guts to be candid. They could learn a few things from you. Don't let it get you down...we love ya!
*than, not that. I can't type when I'm angry.
oh, and I love the eagle shots. I was watching eagles here today. O.K.....I'm giving you back your comments section now. ;)
Justacoolcat, bald eagles really are pretty amazing. I love watching them fly when they make their larges circular arcs through the sky.
Deb, aw, thanks. I kind of needed that. More than anything it bugged me that they used my email for it. Somehow my email did not seem like the right place. Grr!
yeah, I don't blame you. It's a bit of a bullying tactic I'd say and I think it violated your space a bit.
Well, guess we probably ran them right outta' here. Don't mess with the bitches and their backup. I love Barb's response - "congrats".
I'll tell you about getting close to eagles - I was videotaping two eagles in their nest once when one swooped right down at me...the video's quite funny. I freaked out a bit.
Oh man, I wonder if there's any way for you to post that? That would be so totally cool to see. I would have freaked out too but just to be so close to one, pretty cool.
I got good backup! I think I have managed to miraculously find my way to a fantastic group of bloggers.
unfortunately it's on my old VHS camera and I have no idea how to transfer it...I can tell you I almost dropped the camera.
I'm pretty sure I would have dropped it. There's probably a way but it probably involves a million gizmos to do so. That's the one annoying thing about technological advances we're all left with old crap we don't know what to do with.
Whoa, that's so cool *jealous*
I've only ever seen Eagles with trainers etc, never in the wild where they should be! :[]
Dogga, eagles in the wild are pretty neat all right. What we don't see here are the brightly coloured small birds such as meadowlarks or orioles or finches.
Living in Chicago, I pass panhandlers, prostitutes, drunks and every other kind of dysfunctional person every day of my life. If I gave out money to everybody who asked for it, I'd be broke.
I've frequently offered to buy meals for people who've asked for money, and I've been taken up on it twice. Having been broke and hungry at a couple of points in my life, I promised never to let anyone go hungry if I could help it.
I've also frequently passed people who are passed out drunk. I've stopped and helped people who have fallen down, and helped people whose cars have broken down (and have been helped in the same situation). In a big city you have only your experiences and instincts to tell who is someone who actually needs help and who's a bullshit artist. There's a good chance that if I saw someone on a sidewalk or bench, I'd assume that they were passed out drunk. That's a sad fact of living in a big city.
Last year, when my old friend Mark was shot to death outside of his house in a botched robbery, he lay in the street, between two parked cars, for about four hours. My guess is that people passing by thought that he was one of the drunks who lived under on overpass for the Kennedy Expressway, which ran right behind his house. It didn't make me feel too good.
PS
Gorgeous pictures as always. When I was 17, in 1978, I was driving through the Arizona desert with my late grandfather. A golden eagle flew up in front of the jeep. It had to have had an almost ten foot wingspan.
I saw a golden eagle once, in Missouri.
Doh- Make that "I saw a bald eagle once in Missouri."
Leazwell, what kind of camera do you use? I just love your pictures. Whenever I use the zoom button the pictures comes out grainy and so far I can't figure out if it's me or the camera. Probably me.
Johnny Yen, I have never seen an eagle fly by me at a close range only up high in the sky. Their wing span is incredible!
I've said it before but I am so sorry for your loss of a good friend. I still remember your post about helping the young man that was in part responsible for his death. I still think that is the best memorial you can possibly give to your friend.
I think sometimes it is just so difficult to determine the situation and unless we see something happen before us we keep on moving. Last year on my birthday as it happened I saw an elderly woman kind of wilt into her push chair. When I ran to her I could tell something was seriously wrong and ran into the nearest store where they called the paramedics. The woman had suffered a stroke. It was horrible and I was so grateful for the woman who left her store to help me. She was awesome and so were the paramedics. The pharmacist however was not. She is even one of his customers and surely pharmacists must have some medical training. After the paramedics left I went into his store and told me I was never going to buy anything in his store ever again. I'm sure this made quite the impact since I had never been in his store before!
Sorry you got blasted Toccata. I know how it feels and remember when I got a hostile comment on my blog and how it made me feel. What I had said was completely taken out of context. I believe this person to have done that to you. After reading your blog before and reading the story you posted I dont know how someone could have got that from what you said. Weird.
I came from a small town and live in a small town now but also lived in a city for 7 years where that was not an uncommon site. I don't know what I would have done but as the others said I think you honored your favorite neighbor. There was no bad there for me.
I like your Eagle pictures. They are beautiful.
Slaygirl, thanks for that. I remember that post you are referring to and I also remember thinking the hostile commentor was way off base.
