Lyle's Place, my favorite new and used CD store in town. I sink too much money in this place. The store should come with a warning sign!

I wholeheartedly agree, record stores need to come with a password or something. And used are worse, because you figure you are getting such a bargain, so you buy more.

Very nice list this week - hard to go wrong starting off with the Smiths!

the pawn shop here is the place for cd's.

i went looking for some new ones tonight at the mall and couldn't find anything i was looking for. i fear that soon cd's will be a thing of the past and everything will be done online.

That's a big fear of mine too, Deb. I find I have to special order some cds now. And I would really miss the liner notes if everything were bought online!

Barb, I am so with you on the used CD's.I'm getting a deal so of course I can buy more!

Deb, I would have never thought of a pawnshop.

Barb and Deb, I also like to own something tangible, something I can hold in my hand and read the liner notes, look at the art work while listening to the CD. I certainly do not want to see the industry go strictly to an online format. Special ordering is a pain because when you want something you want it NOW.

Hi Toccata. When I think of a CD I don't have, I do Ebay. Because of Mel I just recently got Sweet Relief. And also because of her I know about the HIP song. Smiled at Edward comment. It's hard to get tired of. Ha.

Have to own the CD. I need to see a case, cover, and art. (From my record days I guess)

Great list! Dylan's Infidels album was a great comeback for him. I'm a big Roy Orbison fan, as well.

I was fascinated by the tile of the Tragically Hip song-- Bobcaygeon was one of my favorites. I read up on Bill Barilko-- I'd never heard the story. What a sad and eerie tale!

OH Buster got the Sweet Relief CD YAY! It's so awesome. I dont go near cd stores lately. I can't resist. Last time I went, I was just going to look, but ended up buying the soundtrack to Im Your Man, and I already owned the DVD!!! Bad Mel!

Busterp, I need to start using EBay. My students use it all the time. I guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy wanting to deal with an actual store.

Johnny Yen, have you ever seen the Roy Orbison and Friends special on PBS? I had not heard of Bill Barilko until reading about him on Mellowlee's blog. I like songs when they reference actual events.

Mellowlee, oh gosh I don't even want to think about the number of times I have wandered into a CD store "just to look" and walk out poorer!

thanks for the note would you believe I was actually thinking about those berries yesterday morning at work, I was trying to recall where in Seattle I seen some trees that would not be too far ta walk to look for a few when I am there in a week and a half, so how good is the selection at your music store? I recall the ever so dreaded search for music in Nanaimo, usually not too successful, however, Vancouver was another story, so how are prices up there? as I recall the music and especially the books were a lot more, however I could find some interesting books up there that I could not find back in the States.

You hit the nail on the head about used cd stores and warning labels. I've been meaning to pick up Camera Obscura's latest.

Splinkster, the music selection is actually pretty good. It doesn't come close to Vancouver though. Music used to be cheaper here but our books have always been much more expensive. I have no idea why. Even books that are published here cost more!

I sure hope our west coast weather shows off for you especially since you guys are in the midst of a cold snap. Sure hope you have fun in Seattle. Will you be downtown? There's a really cool pub there. I can't remember the name but I'll ask my friend I'm sure they'll remember it and I'll get back to you.

Justacoolcat, for some reason I can always justify buying music.

I do buy a lot of music online, but for artists I truly love I'll shell out the extra money just for liner notes. Thing is, I'm horrible when it comes to cd organization, nothing is ever in the right case.

As Barb mentioned, I've noticed a lot of 'special orders' lately, its going to be interesting to see the direction everything takes in the next little while. I don't think the cd is dead though.

Allison, I have had to do special ordering for classical music for a number of years now. I don't like it though. My CD's are always in alphabetical order and they never find themselves into the wrong case! My classical CD's are in a completely different shelving system. I don't know why but I refuse to mix my classical and nonclassical music. It's just a thing!

Huh, I just put The Smiths, the charming man on my iPod yesterday :]

Dogga, can't go wrong with the Smiths and The Charming Man.

Boo, I would hate to try and figure out how much of money has gone to books and CD's over the years. But think how blah life would be without them!
