Friday's Random Shuffle in Memory of The Hour and to What Once Was
The Hour was the jumping off point for my entrance into the world of blog land. I was roaming around the Internet one night last summer when I stumbled across The Stroumboulopoli. Who knew a simple click of the mouse could end up having such an impact on one's life. I met so many great people on that site, many are now part of my sidebar and daily blog reading. Of course my circle of friends has widened since then but we all start somewhere.
It has been rather sad and depressing to see the decline of a show that started out with such amazing potential. So to George Stroumboulopoulos and the rest of the gang at The Hour, it has been a great journey that you started me on, I'm only sorry that you are no longer a part of the ride.

This play list is not all that random this week. In keeping with the theme of the post I decided to shuffle songs from my odds and ends file which contains the songs I have collected from clicking on music that others have so generously posted. I found I needed to have a separate file otherwise they were getting lost among my own music.
Ok so maybe a few more squirrels!
These were sent to me by Waward Son.

1. Edward: Nicky Hopkins
2. Fuck this Shit: Belle and Sebastian
3. 7 Demons: Saybia
4. Chinaberry Tree: Mew
5. I've Got You and You've Got Me: New Buffalo
6. Let's Get out of this Country: Camera Obscura (Definitely not Camaromance!)
7. American Music: Violent Femmes
8. 06 April Skies: The Jesus and Mary Chain
9. Mosquitoes and Cars: Kris Demeanor
10. Left and Leaving: The Weakerthans
I have been listening to the entire file while writing this. It's a damn good playlist! Thanks everybody. Hope you're all having yourselves a great Friday.

After all the comments that I read about The Hour losing the thing that made it interesting, I don't feel guilty for not watching it.

I really like it when people post songs, I discovered bands that now I really like. Separate folder (or reading list) : that's what i should do!

Evelyne, I like the lists too. It also shows just how much music is out there! Did you read 668's post? It was reading it that gave me the idea for today's list.

That is a wonderful idea for a playlist! There are a couple of musicians on there that I am not familiar with, but am completely intrigued and will check them out.

It's funny, I actually met quite a few wonderful people through the Hour as well, and in season 1 and 2, it was a everyday part of my life. I'm thankful for the contacts, but the show is no longer on my radar. No hard feelings, the Hour, but you are the weakest link. (oooh, does anyone still say that?)

I think we need to mark this date because there are artists Barb doesn't know. Most of these I heard of through Barb...with the B & S being one of my current favorites and played daily now.

Great stuff tc...and what's the deal with The Hour?

Fuck this Shit: Belle and Sebastian

Har! that is funny. I have never heard of this before but would definately listen to it.

Barbara, do you know number 1? If not I just might be able to get that one where you can hear it. Let me know.

Deb, I don't even know where to start with The Hour except to say at this point as to what's the deal with The Hour at this point in time, nothing worthwhile.

Faith, welcome. That song was on Barbara B's site. It's hilarious because the title is completely incongruous with the lovely instrumental that is actually the song.

Woot Cameraromance!! I mix my music files, but understand the need to another folder.

Sadly, The Hour is no longer part of my routine either. Nor it tv for that matter. But it lead me to all you beautiful people so I'm forever greatful :)

Allison, I first learned of Camaromance from you! 28 Balloons. I remember when you posted that song and I just kept hitting play over and over again. I met you because of The Hour so I will definitely be forever grateful.

Deb, you're making me blush.

Toccata, # 1 is one of the ones I don't know, but I would be very curious to hear it. Mydatabus or Bolt are both good sites for featuring music, if that's what you are planning to do.

But isn't Let's Get Out of this Country by Camera Obscura? Or am I confused? Too many camera band names, sort of like the wolf band names a couple of years ago.

Toccata said...

Barbara, first off you are right about Camera Obscura. Dumb, dumb dumb on my part. I am going to edit my post right away. Number one I will email you.

Hi Toccata.

Your list got me this week. 2,3,4,5,6,9,10 sound new to me. Maybe it was that period I was in a coma. Ha.

Have a nice "green" weekend.

Busterp, this list is all very Indie music and I think a few of them don't even have record labels yet. It's green but wet!

and i love reading friday's top ten. and very cool idea for playing this week. i gotta figure out how to post tunes.

i saw you are going to fido and people are dressing up as zombies. i am so jealous! what a totally wicked idea.

Were those pictures there last night??? Those just made my day, thanks.

Nicky Hopkins is the damn bee's knees...the stones were lucky to find him.

Toccata said...

668, you most definitely can claim credit for this post. Here's hoping you don't drown so you'll be around tomorrow night. Fido was so much fun! If you get the chance go.

Allison, don't worry you're mind is not yet gone. I only added the pictures this morning. Glad you enjoyed them.

Junky, that song definitely ranks among my favorites. Nicky Hopkins played for an amazing array of musicians and bands. With his skills it's not hard to see why.

LOL! Those pictures are ridiculous! That made my night. Thanks Toccata!

Faith, glad to hear it. They certainly made my day when I received them from a friend. Hope you're having a good weekend.

I am glad to have met you all through the net and I am proud to know you.
but... You bring up a point I have been avoiding.
I can't do the group blog by myself if anyone wants to resign from it It would be nice if you found someone to replace you who watches The Hour and wants to post.

I know people move on and their interest change and I am fine with that. I don't have time these days to listen to all the new music so that's not on my radar as much.

But since the topic has been brought up here...The stroumboulopouli needs participants in the group blog.
I work hard on it and I take it seriously and I just promoted it on a radio show. I would be so happy to see other people posting about any or all the topics that come up in any given week.

I know your busy and everybody's interest change but think about it... do you know someone who would want to blog in your place?

Toccata said...

Kelly, as opposed to the fireman flasher?

Barbara, I am not a member of The Stroumboulopouli and never have been but I would suggest going to the site itself and asking for volunteers there. Maybe George would even let you post a request for interested bloggers on The Hour's Blog. I don't know maybe he would even say something on his radio show. It's worth a try. Good luck.

i saw fido last year and really liked it. but man, i wish i could see it with all of you dressed up as zombies.

Toccata said...

668, wish you could too. Have you ever done the Rocky Picture Horror Show midnight dress up thing? I love doing that as well.
