A Hat Picture
Not thee hat but a hat. A very weird hat. Why on earth did my mother ever make me wear that hat? That is one scary hat picture. The only thing I can figure is it must have been Easter Sunday. I have a memory of wearing an Easter bonnet on Easter Sundays.

Have been very busy this week but will try and get caught up with everyone this weekend.

Oh my God, that's so cute. Didn't our mothers used to do us up? I remember my Mom doing my hair for an hour before we'd go for Christmas dinner. The good ol' days.

Aw, how cute. Its the bow on the dress that gets me!

I don't think I ever wore a hat of anything kind besides a baseball cap growing up.

I remember wearing hats around Easter when we went to church or Sunday school. I had forgot. Repressed memories? Ha.

I also had an Ivy league hat. Like this but tweedy pattern. Ha. Ha.

Deb, you must have had long hair even when you were little. Lucky you. I don't think kids have to go through the whole dress up thing as much anymore.

Allison, the bow is rather ridiculous too. Luckily for you, I think the whole hat thing went out of style before you came along.

Busterp, repressed memories. I bet your mom has a picture hidden somewhere of a little Busterp in a hat!

Busterp,

My folks didn't make me wear a hat, but they make me wear those ridiculous high-heeled men's shoes that were popular in the early seventies. I've never forgiven them for that. And remember, I'll choose their nursing home.

Johnny Yen, too funny. Those shoes are definitely something the world need never see again!

i don't think i wore hats when i was young. i don't think i would have sat still for it. the dresses however, yes, i had to suffer thru those.

Toccata said...

668, my dresses were always homemade and rather illfitting. My mother actually disliked to sew and the joke was when she learned a new pattern look out because for a year that's what you'd be wearing!

p.s. 668 My mom also said I always threw a temper tantrum when she dressed me so judging by the number of pictures I have of me in dresses I must have thrown a lot of temper tantrums!!

I don't remember wearing hats as a kid but dresses yes, but in grade 2 i told my parents that i would never wear a dress again and that i liked jeans... and since then, i haven't wear many dresses, lol

I have a grade 5 class pic from the fall of '72. The "in" clothes were psychedelic, lots of groovy patterns and colours, bellbottoms and beatle haircuts.

Hey, if you get a chance, could you post the rest of those pics of your neighbour's house?

I think you look adorable in that hat, but it does look as though it would go sailing of at the first hint of a breeze. I never had a hat that I recall, but I did have a pair of white gloves - not winter goves either. God knows why.

Evelyne, that's funny how you decided in grade two that you were never wearing a dress again! Funny how moms always want us in dresses looking all pretty and we want nothing to do with it.

Whitenoise, I will try and post the pictures tomorrow for you. I should make it under the condition that you post you in your psychedelic clothes!

Barbara, lol on the white gloves. I know I had a pair myself. Why would I be wearing white gloves? I can certainly remember them though and they itched like crazy.

Mellowlee, hey thanks for stopping by and tapping out a message with your one good hand. Hope you don't have to be one handed for long!

Kelly, let me get this straight. Are you calling me a dork? :)

The things our moms would do to us...

I remember sleeping with foam curlers in my hair.. ugh... and my mom made all my dresses... and *gulp* gauchos.

Danny tagalog, lol on the mutant Polo mint!

Kelly, haha. You are such a funny brat.

Ethel, I had definitely repressed all memory of gauchos from my visual image bank. Yikes. I totally remember the foam curlers but I threw such a major hissy fit over them that I only had to live through that ordeal once.
