Junk Drawer Tidbits
Cleaned out my junk drawer this morning and came across a couple of things I thought I would post here.

From the Globe and Mail on biblical illiteracy:
9 out of 10 Americans believe in God. 1 in 3 consider themselves evangelical or "born again" yet less than half the population can name even one of the Gospel authors.

From Talking Books:
(I unfortunately did not write down who said this.)
A rule of thumb for writing dialogue: Imagine it in a film. If it makes you cringe, hit delete.

Chinese Horoscope
Today our Chinese community is having their parade to celebrate Chinese New Year. Rain or shine I will be down there and hopefully the rain will behave itself so I can get some pictures. I love the parade the dragon is always awesome and the parade itself always colourful.
This is my Chinese Horoscope that Boo sent me.

Oxen in China are put on a pedestal. So it goes with Oxen people. Oxen are bright, peace-loving, often easy-going and trusting. But, on the other hand, they can also be stubborn, methodical, and fiercely competitive, with, shudder, fierce tempers to boot. Oxen are natural born mentors and life is filled with examples of people who have gone on to great success because of them. Mentally and physically alert to the point of genius, many Oxen belong to Mensa. They can create the most imposing structures, magnificent sculpture, and homes. They respond like poets to the beauties of nature and of solitude. Oxen are unique, they are The Flower that bursts through the crack of cement.

Famous Ox People: Tung Chee-Hwa, Sukarno, Richard Burton, Napoleon, Charlie Chaplin, Peter Sellers, Margaret Mead, Jawaharlal Nehru, Eisaku Sato, Princess Diana

Gung Hey Fat Choi!

You oxens sound like real stand-up people. Isn't it peculiar that you are all great mentors, as that's what you do for a living? I'm a dog, a dog who is looking forward to the parade pictures.

Barbara, good morning. I was thinking when I read your years on graduation last night that I wished I had been more focused when I was younger and didn't wait so long between degrees. Focussing in on one thing will never be my strong point!

I can't wait to see the photos! It is sunny here right now. Hope it's the same there! I loved the clips from your junk drawer

You don't need to focus when you are a member of Mensa. Or maybe you do.

I was born in 1961-- I'm an Ox as well.

I'm also a Taurus. I'm sure most people would agree that I live up to the "stubborn" part of both horoscopes.

My son, who is half Chinese, looks forward every year to the New Year's parade in Chicago's Chinatown.

Mellowlee, the photos are coming but they are a disaster!

Barbara B, I just think life would not be nearly as fun if I didn't have so many interests.

Johnny Yen, I too was born in 1961! I also have that stubborn streak and my temper can be fierce but ever so short lived. It's hard to believe but Victoria is supposed to have the second largest Chinatown in North America next to San Francisco.

Do you know Mayan Astrology? I'm an electric blue eagle in Mayan astrology. I have no idea what I am in Chinese astrology.

Wayward Son, an electric blue eagle? That sounds kind of cool. I don't know astrology in any culture. Boo, sent me my Chinese horoscope. Actually, I just realized you have to be an ox as well!
